Carrollton Volunteer Fire Dept. and Smithfield Vol. Fire Dept. were dispatched at 4:58 p.m. Thursday 26 January 2017 to a reported structure fire on Brewers Neck Blvd. in Carrollton, Virginia. Carrollton VFD crews and apparatus had already been dispatched to and were still on scene at a “fully involved” vehicle fire several miles away. Fire Chief T. Nunez was the first to arrive at this residential fire scene, reported smoke showing from three sides of the structure and assumed incident command. Deputy Chief B. Hubbard arrived quickly and was delegated operational command. Smithfield VFD Engine-51 arrived at 5:03 and initiated an aggressive fire attack. Carrollton Rescue-10 arrived next and the crew quickly began the primary search operation. Carrollton units Squad-10, Engine-10 and Smithfield units Engine-52 and Ladder-50 arrived in quick succession. The Smithfield crew achieved a rapid fire suppression confining the damage to only the kitchen area of the home. Dominion Power arrived to disconnect the electrical supply and it was determined that the occupant did not need American Red Cross assistance. Carrollton crews continued overhaul operations until command was terminated at 6:51 p.m. when all apparatus was returned to service.
